Heritage

Cubelles Castle

Recorded since 1041 and built over the remains of a Roman villa. Most of today’s building dates from the 17th century. The Town Council bought it in 1989 and restored it: it now houses the Tourist Office, and the ground floor and the main floor are open to visitors.

Charlie Rivel exhibition

Inside the castle, a collection devoted to Josep Andreu Lasserre, the clown Charlie Rivel, born in Cubelles in 1896: costumes, awards and personal belongings.

Santa Maria church

The parish church, with a façade painted to look like rusticated stone. Nearby is the chapel of Sant Antoni de Pàdua, from 1694.

Walks around town

Plaça del Mar

The statue of Charlie Rivel by Guillermo Marín (1980) honours the town’s most famous son.

20th-century buildings

Casa Estapé, a Noucentista house from the 1940s, and Can Travé, a neoclassical house full of Greco-Roman details.

Cubelles walking routes

The Town Council has signposted several walks through the town’s heritage and along the coast. Leaflets are available at the Tourist Office in the castle.

Sea and river

Cubelles has several kilometres of beach and one of the few wetlands on the Garraf coast, at the mouth of the river Foix. See the Beaches and Nature pages for details.

Quiet beaches

Wide sand and gently shelving water, with fewer crowds than Sitges or Vilanova.

Cycling by the sea

The flat coastal cycle path heads towards Vilanova i la Geltrú.
